About this Course

Evidence-based practice in the field of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)advocates a team approach within which the child’s individual communication needs and typical child development principles are at the heart. This practical, online training offers professionals working with emerging communicators on the Autism Spectrum and those with similar social and communication challenges an introduction to the skills and strategies essential to create and support effective language learning opportunities using AAC tools. Handouts and resources accompany the content of this video course.

Learning Objectives
  • Explore the tole of main members on the AAC team, including yours as a behavior professional.
  • Identify resources and strategies to become familiar with your client’s AAC system as a starting point to becoming a “smart partner”.
  • Apply the Create, Support, Model framework to identify motivating routines for language learning, support engagement in those routines, and integrate effective aided language modeling and aided language stimulation
